  6. Use a round cutter and cut out,I used a muffin cup
  7. Brush with egg wash and bake untill golden
  8. Serve with jam,chocolate or plain with a hot cup of tea or chilled drink.
  9. In the abscence of self raising flour mix 1 cup flour with 1 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/4 tsp salt and whisk together.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. English scones are not glazed or frosted, and they are generally spilt open and spread with butter, but sometimes also with clotted cream and jam (yes please!).
